Specialty Elementary Classes
At Central Christian School, elementary learning extends beyond the homeroom classroom through a rich weekly specialty program designed to support academic growth, creativity, physical development, and character formation. All elementary students participate in five specialty classes each week, taught by dedicated specialty teachers who partner with classroom teachers to reinforce learning and help students discover their God-given gifts.
Each week, students rotate through Art, Music, Physical Education, Friendzy, and Library/Technology, experiencing consistent, age-appropriate instruction that strengthens both skills and character. These classes are a vital part of our commitment to educating the whole child in an academically excellent, biblically grounded environment.
Art
Art at Central Christian School invites students to explore creativity, develop skill, and express ideas through a wide range of artistic mediums and techniques. Instruction is grounded in the Elements and Principles of Art and Design, including line, shape, color, space, form, texture, balance, contrast, movement, emphasis, unity, and variety.
Through the study of their own artwork as well as the work of master and modern artists, students build artistic skills while also developing critical thinking, problem solving, and personal expression. Students are introduced to influential artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Alma Thomas, Gustav Klimt, M.C. Escher, Georgia O’Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, and Andy Warhol as they learn how artists use design elements to communicate meaning.
Students work with a variety of media including drawing, painting, design, mixed media, collage, and printmaking. Younger students also strengthen fine and gross motor skills through hands-on creation using age-appropriate tools and materials. The art program is designed to help each student grow in confidence, creativity, and craftsmanship as they use their God-given talents to create art that reflects beauty, meaning, and faith.
Music
Music at Central Christian School invites students to explore, create, and perform music as an expression of beauty, truth, and worship. Through foundational instruction and joyful participation, students learn how music reflects God’s creativity and how their own voices and talents can be used to glorify Him and serve others.
In elementary grades K–5, students participate in weekly music classes that build essential musical understanding and performance skills. Instruction includes rhythm, pitch, music notation, form, dynamics, orchestral instruments, and musical storytelling. Students also explore music and dance from cultures around the world, helping them appreciate the diversity of God’s creation and develop a broader global awareness.
A highlight of the elementary music program is the annual Christmas program, an experience that brings students together in ensemble singing and performance. All K–5 students participate, learning collaboration, confidence, and stage presence, while older students take on additional leadership roles through acting opportunities. This shared tradition celebrates both musical growth and the joy of telling meaningful stories through the arts.
Physical Education
Elementary Physical Education at Central Christian School is designed to promote physical development, teamwork, and healthy habits while reinforcing character and perseverance. Through structured, age-appropriate activities, students build foundational motor skills, coordination, strength, and endurance in a positive and encouraging environment. PE classes emphasize cooperation, sportsmanship, and respect for others, helping students learn how to work as a team, handle challenges, and grow in confidence. By caring for their bodies and practicing discipline and effort, students are encouraged to honor God through movement and develop habits that support lifelong health and well-being.
Friendzy (Christian Character Education)
Friendzy is a biblically grounded social and emotional learning program that supports character formation, emotional intelligence, and healthy relationships in elementary students. Rooted in Scripture, Friendzy teaches students how to navigate friendships, manage emotions, communicate with kindness, and respond to challenges with wisdom and self-control.
Through engaging, age-appropriate lessons, students practice character skills intentionally and explicitly, helping them grow in confidence, empathy, and responsibility. These skills strengthen classroom community, support academic focus, and contribute to a positive learning environment where students feel safe, known, and supported. Friendzy reinforces our commitment to educating the whole child and equipping students to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.
Library/Technology
Library and STEM classes at Central Christian School alternate weekly, giving elementary students balanced opportunities to grow as readers, researchers, problem-solvers, and creators. During Library weeks, students develop a love of reading while learning essential skills such as locating information, evaluating sources, and using technology responsibly. During STEM weeks, students engage in hands-on, inquiry-based learning that encourages curiosity, creativity, and perseverance as they design, build, test, and problem-solve. Together, Library and STEM support academic growth by strengthening literacy, critical thinking, and collaboration, while helping students learn how to use knowledge wisely and purposefully in God’s world.
